Choosing The Right Chain Length


	How to determine the correct necklace chain length There are a few points to consider when selecting a necklace chain: Does the chain go with your wardrobe? Can the chain be worn casually or for fancy events (or both)? How long should the chain be? You should always consider your body frame, height and the neckline of your outfit or shirt when selecting a chain length. The average adult woman’s neck size measures between 14 and 15 inches. The average adult men’s neck size measures between 16-18 inches. The general rule of thumb is to add 2 to 4 inches to your neck size to determine a comfortable, every day chain length. If your neck circumference measurement is significantly different than these averages, be sure to add or subtract length for the necklace to fall as desired.
	Women’s Standard Necklace Chain Sizes 14” necklaces - Choker length This length will sit snugly around the middle of the neck. Choker length necklaces work well with off-the-should apparel. 16” necklaces – Collar length This necklace length usually sits on the hollow of the base of the neck, just above the collarbone. This length emphasizes the neckline of women with a petite to medium build. For plus size women it may feel more like the choker length. 18” necklaces – Princess length This is the most common necklace length for women. It is a popular choice for adding pendants or wearing it by itself as a statement item. For those with a larger neck or broad shoulder, the princess length will fit more like the collar length. 20” necklace – (Princess length) For most women this necklace will fall a few inches below the collarbone. The length is perfect when wearing a low, plunging neckline or when wearing a turtleneck. 24” necklace – Matinee length This length usually hits mid-sternum, following below any neckline.

	Men’s Standard Necklace Sizes 18” necklaces A shorter length that falls just around the base of the neck. For most men, this length sits just above a crew neck t-shirt. 20” necklaces The 20” necklace is the most common length for men and usually sits at the collarbone. A pendant featured on this length will hide under a crew neck shirt or show completely with a low v-neck or unbuttoned dress shirt. 24” necklaces This longer length sits just above the sternum and is used to hide pendants under the shirt.
